Painting

Many years ago in school I enjoyed drawing and painting but have had no opportunity to practice until recently. Painting walls and ceilings with emulsion paint were the limits of my artistic endeavour for many years.

I am experimenting with various media – water colour, aquarelle pencils, crayons and pen and ink – to try and find the right combination for my limited skill. The skeletal tree shown below was drawn on scrap A4 paper with my fountain pen. It was then scanned, printed and shaded with Indian ink applied with a fine paintbrush.

So far my efforts have met with variable success and consequently I have deliberately avoided the temptation to buy expensive materials and equipment. There will be time for that when my level of skill justifies the expenditure. The following picture is one of my first attempts at watercolour.

And as is often the case I seem to be getting worse with practice rather than better but I look forward to posting more pictures in future.
